Organizational Frenzy
Just checking in to give you ladies an update on my craft frenzy. My mind is going so fast that I have started to just write out everything I like in my scrap journal. If I didn’t I think my mind would self-combust. lol First off, I’ve been wanting to rebuild my craft/ scrapbooking desk and move it to my tiled kitchen. I want to get it off the carpet and away from hubby’s chaotic work area. Plus, it’s up against a freestanding wall screen. I just have no room to sit and work. Plus I have too much stuff for that small a space.

I’ve been salivating over the over 8 foot wide wall in my kitchen for sometime now. lol A friend gave us a counter top that’s 8×3 feet in a pale marble gray laminate and I’ve finally decided how I want to use it. I’m researching how to get two under counter kitchen cabinets to mount it on. Preferably with drawers. We went to Lowes and figured it was going to run us about $200 to do it. That’s a pretty penny for just part of the desk. I’ve talked to some people about where I can find used or surplus cabinets in our area. The problem I’m running into is the I live in a small town not a big metropolis so its not as readily available. I finally found a place nearby that is a Habitat for Humanity ReSale Center. I’m hoping to run by there sometime this week.

I found some great inexpensive plastic crates of 3 different sizes at Walmart in the prettiest vibrant green. I just had to start with those for my color scheme. They cost me $27 for 8 and 3 green transparent pen holders. I’m thinking I might make a little triangle out of them and turn them on their side. I’m definitely a girly girl but not into too much country style or frills. I tend to like an elegant look but with a splash of color. Next, I found some clearance (My favorite word! ) fabric colored trapezoid (?) shaped containers at Michaels. They are pink based with slightly muted version of the bright greens, purples etc in 1cm sized dots. Too cute to pass up for $14 total. So now I have a color palate of vibrant green and pink. hmmmmm What to do? Go with geometric since there seem to be tons of circles in these containers? I know the plastc shelving units I have already are blue 12×12 drawers in white frames. That’s too cheap looking and too many colors. I thought I’d see about painting them or something.
Armed with these things and a few rare hours of time to myself this Sunday, I pulled my 12 yo daughter on a fun filled shopping mission. Doesn’t it seem like we are always trying to squeeze in lots of little things? Seems like anytime I want to shop I can’t do it leisurely anymore. I have to grab a half hour before the shop closes while my husband sits in the car reading etc. (Bless his soul) Sunday was different. She and I had a blast and a mission to hit at least 4 places at our own rate. No time to be home by. It’s going to be one of my cherished memories I’m sure. Well, we went to Goodwill as lots of you seem to recommend for organizational stuff. I found lots of little tin buckets for 39 and 59 cents. (What the heck? No cents sign on the keyboard???? When did that get eliminated?) They even had scrapbook goodies there! lol I found 8×8 paper packs for 39 cents and a mini spiral bound album that matches a card making kit I already had. lol
Then we went to the Salvation Army Thrift store but it was closed on Sundays (BOOOO!) So we drove across town and hit a little shopping center that has a Factory Card Outlet, A Ross, and a dollar store. We even got to run into a Bead shop for a browse when a thunder boomer hit. What fun! That’s a dangerous place for a crafter. lol Dollar store didn;t have what Iw as looking for so we slipped into FCO. I had an idea of using ModgePodge to cover the front sof the blue drawers and played around with that the night before. I wanted tosee what tissue paper and Wrapping paper I could find. Well, low and behold when I was just ready to give up on that huge selection of wrapping paper I looked inside a little spot and found exaclty what I wanted. It’s white based with gold/ light brown wordings and filigree with bright groups of differetn flowers brs and butterflies. It was PERFECT to tie in all the goodies on my desk! Here is a picture of the matching gift bag that goes with it to give you an idea. Just gorgeous!

We ended the trip off at Ross and my daughter bought some clothes to start school out and what did I find??? lol More scrapbooking supplies. Huge 1000 piece kits for $7.99 and $5.99. Plus a great little paperback book on collage cards for $3.99 $20 total and my arms were full! lol Doesn’t the thrill of a good buy make you giddy? I’ll let you know how these papers and em-bellies work out.
I’ll let you know how the decoupage works out on the plastic. lol So far I’ve layered it with Gesso first to give it something to hold onto. It’s not permanent but it seems pretty sturdy.
HUGS! Claudia

Wow – you’ve got a project on your hands! I’ll look forward to seeing your results. Thanks so much for listing my blog!
Still working on it ladies! Just came from Lowes pricing out under counter cabinets to hold up the desk top. A little too steep for my pocketbook today so I had to be satisfied with just getting the second “shelf”. 1 x 6 feet of wood. Now I can paint them and start figuring out where everything goes. lol
It’s all coming together. Keep your fingers crossed!
